My eldest daughter gave this snail shell “ring” to me during a walk along an Oxfordshire footpath. If anyone pokes my finger it will curl back into its little house and not come back out for a long, long time. And whenever my pinky does something (like scratch my nose), it will do it very slowly and snail-ly. Come to think of it, my pinky doesn’t really do very much to begin with. It’s kind of a vestigial digit, don’t you think? In fact, I can count the things I do with my pinky on one hand (not even counting the pinky). But, back to the house-ring. Isn’t it wonderful?
